How many days does an IVF cycle take from start to finish?

One IVF cycle usually takes three to four weeks. Roughly:
— Stimulation: 8–14 days (on average 10–12). Daily injections at home and 3–4 monitoring scans in this period.
— Trigger and egg retrieval: 34–36 hours after the trigger injection, under brief sedation; home the same day.
— Laboratory: fertilisation starts the same day; embryos are cultured for 3–5 days.
— Transfer: a painless procedure of a few minutes — or all embryos are frozen and the transfer is postponed to a later cycle.
— Waiting: a blood hCG test about 9–14 days after transfer.
Clinic visits: 3–4 during stimulation, retrieval day, transfer day and test day. No need to stop working or stay in hospital. If you are coming from another city, let us know in advance so visits can be combined.
