How should I prepare for a semen analysis?

The result of a semen analysis depends on preparation. Because values vary from sample to sample, doctors usually ask for at least two separate tests.
Before the test:
— 2–7 days of abstinence (shorter or longer changes the result).
— If you had a feverish illness in the last 2–3 months, tell the doctor: sperm production is a cycle of roughly 70–90 days and fever lowers results temporarily.
— Avoid hammam, sauna and alcohol in the days before the test.
— List all medicines and supplements you take (especially sports products containing hormones).
— The sample is given at the laboratory; if brought from home, follow the clinic's instructions (container, time, temperature) exactly.
